HCutStream - a taste-based movie recommender
Built this mainly for myself because I kept spending like 20–30 minutes every night just trying to decide what to watch.
Most recommendation apps I tried felt a bit bloated:
they push the same popular stuff
they need too much rating/setup before they’re useful
and they don’t really seem to understand my taste beyond genres
So I tried a simpler approach.
You start with a handful of movies you genuinely love, and it builds a taste profile from that to suggest things based on similar patterns (tone, pacing, vibe).
Over time it also learns from likes/dislikes in the app and refines recommendations as you go.
Powered by Convex - made the feedback loop surprisingly easy to build.
Still early, but it already feels closer to how I naturally pick movies.
