Hover/select in dashboard project selector is confusing
More feedback for the amazing Convex dashboard 💫
I found that hovering over a project inadvertently selected it. This led to me picking the right deployment for the wrong project several times. I finally had to slow down and be really deliberate with my mouse movements to get it right.
I get the idea of why it works this way, and I know nested menus and mega menus have worked this way for years - I think the subtletly of the hover-select outcome is what throws it. It's very easy to miss that it happened.

In the above screenshot, it's not immediately clear to the user what the highlight means and what the checkmark means. Having the currently selected project name in the right panel does help, but it's only one of a few seemingly mixed signals vying for the user's attention. And as I said, I really had to focus to understand what was going on and how to get the desired outcome.

We shipped a new ui for the project/deployment selector today that addresses this feedback
100% better! I can see how the former version was more aesthetically pleasing, but this version is very explicit on what does what. Definitely a win.
I think the new version is also prettier :p

Dashboard docs / screenshots often lag a little bit behind our UIs so we could move faster
perennial issue for saas - maybe someone will come up with an ai solution
At some point i played around with having a storybook -> CI screenshot testing -> docs screenshot generation flow, but it was way overkill for our scale / effort required
