From our first investor update sent out after choosing the name, Oct 2021:
Why “Convex”? Since we're building a technical platform for engineers, we wanted the brand to evoke feelings of motion, mathematical, and mechanical precision but also smoothness, effortlessness, and beauty. Many convex shapes are geometrical and regular but also have elegant sweeping arcs. Specifically, the negative space in the middle of the logo is one of those: a Reuleaux Triangle, a convex shape built out of three intersecting circles. This triangle forms the central component of one of the most elegant engineering innovations of the 20th century, the rotary engine. The three colorful arcs encircling this triangle (which suggest a kind of Möbius strip) help emphasize the sense of rotation. This all works for us: we want to be the engine that accelerates tomorrow's Internet companies. On the wordmark, we love the "flatness" of "convex", with no ascenders or descenders. We wanted the word to feel very solid, supportive and "platform-y". The final slash through the "x" creates a subtle lambda shape (λ), which is both a nod to the terminology used in the industry for "serverless functions", but also an homage to the Haskell programming language and the Lambda calculus mathematics that underlies it. Even though we are not using Haskell at Convex, the founders' experience with it and its powerful lessons about data mutability, pure functions, and determinism led to the foundational architectural insight that makes the Convex platform possible.
for those who haven't noticed the lambda easter egg before:
